COVID-19: Promoting vaccine acceptance and addressing hesitancy

Lisa Doggett, MD, MPH, FAAFP, is an experienced, board-certified family physician and medical officer whose work focuses on improving healthcare for the most vulnerable populations. At Sagility, Dr. Doggett serves as the Senior Medical Director over the company’s population health client engagements and is a leading subject matter expert in solution development.

Based on her long-time commitment to promoting immunizations as a critical public health strategy (before and during the COVID-19 pandemic), including her leadership on a state-wide effort to improve adherence with CDC vaccination guidelines in Texas’s State Supported Living Centers, Dr. Doggett was recently appointed as a 2021-22 fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Vaccine Science Fellowship. Only two physicians were selected from a national applicant pool for this prestigious fellowship, which provides access to in-depth information on how vaccines are created, tested, and deployed, as well as the policy development process. This fellowship also helps address the interface between public health and the family medicine community.

Dr. Doggett joined the company in 2015 to lead population health programs in Texas including the Texas Medicaid Wellness Program for three years and oversaw the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) Program. In these roles, she has supported the high-risk Medicaid patients and disabled individuals who benefit from these two programs, assisted with outreach and program development, and guided the programs through the adoption of care models. Prior to her work at Sagility, Dr. Doggett was the Chief Medical Officer at El Buen Samaritano, where she guided the medical care and health services and supervised the clinical staff at Wallace Mallory Clinic for low-income patients without insurance in Austin, Texas. Earlier in her career, Dr. Doggett spent several years as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas School of Nursing, where she also served as Director of the Family Wellness Center for people without private insurance. Prior to this, she practiced as a board-certified family physician, caring for patients with and without private health insurance at the People’s Community Clinic and Balcones Woods Family Medicine in Austin. Dr. Doggett led the effort to create the first Texas chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility and volunteered for 11 years as Board Co-President of the society’s Austin branch, where she was a leader and regular public speaker. She currently holds positions on numerous advisory boards and committees.

Dr. Doggett holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Amherst College, a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, and a Doctor of Medicine from the Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her medical residency in family practice at the University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine.
